Together, they have lectured, written, and consulted internationally since 1979 on management, estimating, productivity, and corporate culture. T om DeMarco is the author or coauthor of nine books on subjects ranging from development methods to organizational function and dysfunction, as well as two novels and a book of short stories. His consulting practice focuses primarily on expert witness work, balanced against the occasional project and team consulting assignment. Currently enjoying his third year teaching ethics at the University of Maine, he lives in nearby Camden. Timothy Lister divides his time among consulting, teaching, and writing. Based in Manhattan, Tim is coauthor, with Tom, of Waltzing With Bears: Managing Risk on Software Projects (Dorset House Publishing Co., Inc., 2003), and of Adrenaline Junkies and Template Zombies: Understanding Patterns of Project Behavior (Dorset House Publishing Co., Inc., 2008), written with four other principals of The Atlantic Systems Guild. Peopleware tries to give advice to broad range of topics, but doesn't open unique new insights. I have read whole range of related literature, so maybe there just wasn't too many new new ideas. I'd recommend anyone interested to look also "Debugging Teams: Better Productivity through Collaboration" and "Managing Humans: Biting and Humorous Tales of a Software Engineering Manager", which are both good books.
This book is not only fun to read, it provides a lot of surprising clues, while at the same time referring to very common experience. The longevity of this book is not only proof of its continuing relevance, but also allows for a broad range of history witnessing the ideas of the authors.It was recommended to me as "best book ever", and I'm reluctant to object.
I believe this is a very helpful book that is recommendable to people interested in team leadership. It is a good starting point. Some aspects are a little "easy" and i would expect any professional to be applying them in their regular job. The book explain the American company mentality.
